Mind/Body

The Mind/Body Connection

During the past 25 years, at the Malter Institute, we have developed concepts and programs that provide us with a greater understanding of fundamental Mind/Body connections. The stress response is the basic link between the Mind/Body system. There is both a powerful PSYCHOLOGICAL component and a NUTRITIONAL component that operates in the Mind/Body system.

At the Malter Institute, we have integrated these fundamental components into a powerful Life Education program that helps a person reduce the stresses of life and leads to greater personal satisfaction. On a psychological level, we developed the concept of the "Judge" or "Inner Terrorist" into a powerful 3-part model linked with the "Inner Child" and the Jungian "Warrior" archetype. Working with these three psychological parts is a vital part of our Life Education program. The "Judge" part is closely related to the stress response. As stress increases, the "Judge" becomes more dominant psychologically. As stress diminishes, the "Judge" shrinks in its control of the "Inner Child."

Metabolic Types

On the body level, Nutrition and Metabolic Types are fundamental components of our Life Education work.

Why are Metabolic Types so important for a better understanding of health, disease, and nutrition including the choice of dietary supplements?

The concept of Metabolic Types allows us to apply "Biochemical Individuality" in a practical manner.

The basic Metabolic Types are "Fast" and "Slow" Metabolizers. Sometimes, they are referred to as Fast and Slow "Oxidizers."

Fast and Slow metabolizers tend to have different physical and psychological characteristics. They also have substantially different nutritional needs. This is why it is so important to identify a person's Metabolic Type. Metabolic Type also relates to nutrient minerals and the balance among them. Assessment of nutrient minerals and Metabolic Type can be accurately done by means of the hair tissue mineral analysis (TMA). Generally speaking, the more balance there is in a person's nutrient minerals, the more resilience there is in a person's ability to cope with stress and to generate energy.

Neuro-endocrine functions can be related Metabolic Types.

The neurological functions refer to the autonomic nervous system -- the sympathetic and the para-sympathetic parts.

The primary endocrine functions relate to the adrenal glands and the thyroid gland.

Metabolic Types are also closely related to the stress response -- the "fight or flight" response.

Metabolic Types are also related to our capacity to produce energy for our daily activities -- both mental and physical. The Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (TMA) shows the basic differences in nutrient mineral patterns between the Fast Metabolizer (Oxidizer) and the Slow Metabolizer (Oxidizer). These differences are clearly illustrated below. Optimal dietary supplement support is different for each of the Metabolic Types.

A unique perspective of hair TMA is seen in the third graph shown below illustrating the Slow Metabolic Type with a high copper (Cu) level. This illustrates the pervasive effect of estrogens (birth control pill and hormone replacement therapy) and copper IUDs on the mineral patterns of countless numbers of women and teen age girls. Some of the health effects of this unique hair TMA pattern can be seen in a health history checklist. The symptoms of this checklist are closely related to the accumulation of excess copper in the cells and tissues, especially in liver and brain tissues.
